Because The latin word for left is sinister and it can also mean unfavorable. Also, the word for right is dextor (or something like that, I didn't look it up to double check so son't quote me on it, but yeah, something along those lines) which makes someone who is ambidextrous as having two right hands, which I guess would make you very clumsy if you were left handed... oh, and it's all got to to with the whole left side of your body is evil, right side is good, little devil sits on your left shoulder, angel sits on you right shoulder, it's all connected... I wonder, actually, if dextor is connected with deus, which is latin for god, I know deus is connected with deis ('day') because 'light' and 'god' are closely linked, and Jupiter in Latin is ... is... um... diespiter, which connects dies+pater 'day+father' (father of day) From dies also comes words like dismal (dies mali would mean 'unlucky days') and diary as well, can't remember exactly how though... something to do with food. The adjective is diurnus 'daily' which is where we get the word 'diurnal' (opposite of nocturnal, nox being 'night') The next person also finds the history of words fascinating ________________________________________ If I ever found a pot of gold, I'd buy bottles untold of the nectar of the vines, 'cos I'm gonna die with a twinkle in my eye, 'coz I sung songs, spun stories, loved, laughed and drank wine.
