That's interesting.
I always thought that he'd die in the final book in the "last battle". I based it on Ron's saying in CoS that Flitwick "was a dueling champion" or something like that. So maybe he'd be a tremendous asset in that battle. But, according to JKR, it appears that you may be right about this one...
