Harry and Ginny _ Procrastination Station _ Guess the song lyrics

Posted by: USMCDevilDog Jun 3 2004, 01:59 AM

This one is from my favorite musical

One day more
Another day another destiny
This never ending road to Calvary
These men who seem o know my crime
Will surely come a second time
One day more

I did not live until today
How can I live when we are parted

One day more

Tomorrow you'll be worlds away
And yet with you my world has started

One more day all on my own

Will we ever meet again

One more day with him not caring

I was born to be with you

What a life I might have known

And I swear I will be true

But he never saw me there

One more day before the storm

Do I follow where she goes

At the barricades of freedom

Do I join my brothers there

When our ranks begin to form

Do I stay do I dare

Will you take your place with me

The time is now the day is here

One day more

One more day to revolution
We will nip it in the bud
I will join these little school boys
They will wet themselves in blood

One day more

Watch em run amok
Catch em as they fall
Never know your luck when there's a free for all
Here a little dip
There a little touch
Most of em are goners
So they won't miss much

One day to a new begining

Raise the flag of freedom high

Every man will be a king

Every man will be a King

There's a new world to be winning

There's a new world to be won

Do you hear the people sing

My place is here I fight with you

One day more

I did not live until today

One more day I'm on my own

How can I live when we are parted

I will join these people's heroes
I will follow where they go
I will learn their little secrets
I will know the things they know

Tomorrow you'll be worlds away

What a life I might have known

And yet with you my world has started

One more day to revolution
We will nip it in a bud
We'll be ready for these schoolboys

Watch em run amok
Catch em as they fall
Never know your luck when there's a free for all

Tomorrrow we'll be far away
Tomorrow is the judgement day

Tomorrow we'll discover
What our God in heaven has in store
One more dawn
One more day
One day more!

Les Miserables, One Day More.

Well, if we're going for musicals...

QUOTE
She saves me but I can't be saved, she frees me but I'm still enslaved, now I battle what I most adore...

Posted by: Drie Jun 3 2004, 11:03 PM

Is that from Aida?

Posted by: nome Jun 5 2004, 03:04 AM

Nope! Actually, this is hard. Brand new, just off broadway.

Posted by: nome Jun 16 2004, 04:19 AM

Alrighty... guess nobody's seen it yet. It was a little much to hope for.

HINT: Based on a classic book written by a woman. Romance, obviously.

Posted by: Drie Jun 16 2004, 04:56 PM

I have absolutely no idea. Wicked? But that wasn't written by a woman . . .

Posted by: nome Jun 16 2004, 06:07 PM

Nope. And it's not something you'd think they'd make into a musical, but it's VERY good.

Think Jane Austen-era.

Edited 'cause I can't type.

Posted by: Drie Jun 16 2004, 07:43 PM

Oh, I know this one, but I can't think of the name! My last boss thought it was incredible . . . but very sad.

Damn! ranting.gif My brain is failing me today.

Posted by: hockeygod Jun 24 2004, 01:50 AM

It's not from Pride and Prejudice is it?

Posted by: nome Jun 25 2004, 04:42 PM

Negative. (sorry for delay -- I'm out of town nearly all this week.)

Here's an "easy" one.

QUOTE
"You know, some guys just can't hold their arsenic."

Posted by: Jerry Jul 26 2004, 11:57 PM

I don't know the rules to this thread, but is the answer "Cell Block Tango"?

Posted by: Drie Jul 27 2004, 04:39 PM

I don't know if we've ever established any rules. The songs were from musical theater, but I just posted one from a movie (which you guessed correctly!). So, up to you if you should decide to post lyrics to a movie or musical play!

Posted by: Jerry Jul 27 2004, 05:12 PM

Can I post lyrics to a song?

If yes, then here it is - one of my favorite songs:

Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains...

Posted by: Drie Jul 27 2004, 06:45 PM

Ah, gotta love that song. Sound of Silence is beautifully written and performed. Nice choice!

Hmm, let's see.

QUOTE
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night

There she stood in the doorway
With the mission bells
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be heaven or this could be hell"

Always a favorite of mine. whistling.gif

Here's another of my favorites"

I am just a poor boy and my story’s seldom told
I’ve squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises
All lies and jest, still the man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest, hmmmm.....

You could probably see who is one of my favorite composers by now if you've read this thread... tongue.gif

Posted by: hockeygod Aug 16 2004, 02:56 AM

I believe this is "The Boxer." I also think Simon and Garfunkle are awesome.

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the mornin' last.
Just kickin' down the cobblestones,
Lookin' for fun and feelin' groovy.
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy.

Posted by: Jerry Aug 16 2004, 03:01 AM

That would be "Feeling Groovy" (Seekers - 59th st. Bridge Song)

"Calling out around the world
Are you ready for a brand new beat
Summer’s near and the time is right
For dancing in the streets
All over the world"

Posted by: Entropy Aug 16 2004, 01:15 PM

'Dancing in the street'. I am not 100 percent sure which singer's version you're quoting, but I know on of my all-time favorite singers did the song... Bowie! (alright, Bowie and Mick Jagger, but still Bowie)

Hmmmm, an easy one since I'm late for work.

"It's a beautiful life, and I've got it in my sights
And that ain't for all of us
It's a beautiful sound
When my life comes crashin' down
That ain't so obvious
It's a beautiful sin, and I'm doin' it again
And that ain't for all of us "

Posted by: Jerry Aug 16 2004, 03:18 PM

That's 'We Are The Normal', I believe.

"Can you feel it? watching you in the darkness
Touching you like a sickness
Fear is taking control,
The beach head is the street.
In the gutter lies defeat.
Fear is the key to your soul
That makes you dangerous
So dangerous to yourself"

Dangerous Lyrics by The Who

From the mountains to the valleys
From the rivers to the sea
Every hand that reaches out
Every hand that reaches out to offer peace
Every simple act of mercy
Every step to kingdom come
All the hope in every heart will speak what love has done

Posted by: Jerry Aug 23 2004, 08:47 PM

I think it's 'Testify to Love' by Avalon. I'm not really sure, though.

Posted by: hershey Aug 23 2004, 09:25 PM

You are correct again sir. You are on a role, however the artist I prefer is Wynonna.

Sing us a song Jerry! whistling.gif

Okay, call me old-fashioned, but I love this song...

"Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass"

Yes, it most certainly is wink.gif

and as for yours, I believe it's from "Pass It On" by Coral, if I'm not mistaken.

Hence, if I'm not mistaken:

"Can you imagine us
Years from today,
Sharing a park bench quietly?
How terribly strange
To be seventy.
Old friends,
Memory brushes the same years
Silently sharing the same fears"

Travis Tritt- It's a great day to be Alive.
I lurrrrrrve that song!

Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
Five hundred twenty-five thousand journeys to plan
Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure the life of a woman of romance?
In the truth that she learns, or the times that he cry’s
In the creature he burns or the way that she dies
Though the story never ends, Lets celebrate your memory here,
In the life of your friends!

May it be when darkness falls

Oh! How far you are from home
Mornie Utúlië
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantië
A promise lives within you now

May it be shadows call
Will fly away
May it be your journey on to light the day
When the night is overcome
You may rise to find the sun

Mornie Utúlië
Believe and you will find your way
Mornie alantië
A promise lives within you now

The Sarge's lyrics are from Enya's 'May It Be' (for LotR: FotR) but I'm unsure about Sockless's - however I assume that makes it Drie's turn.

Failing that:

Okay...let's see.

Look at me
You may think you see who I really am
But you'll never know me
Every day
It's as if I play a part
If I wear a mask
I can fool the world
But I cannot fool my heart

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
When will my reflection show
who I am inside?

I am now in a world where I have to hide my heart
And what I believe in
But somehow I will show the world
What's inside my heart
And be loved for who I am

Who is that girl I see
Staring straight back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?
Must I pretend that I'm someone else for all time?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

There's a heart that must be free to fly
That burns with a need to know the reason why
Why must we all conceal
What we think
How we feel?
Must there be a secret me
I'm forced to hide?

I won't pretend that I'm someone else for all time
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?
When will my reflection show
Who I am inside?

Wilbur!!!!

I want somebody who cares
For me passionately
With every thought and
With every breath
Someone who’ll help me see things
In a different light
All the things I detest
I will almost like
I don’t want to be tied
To anyone’s strings
I’m carefully trying to steer clear of
Those things
But when I’m asleep
I want somebody
Who will put their arms around me
And kiss me tenderly
Though things like this
Make me sick
In a case like this
I’ll get away with it

One of my favorite songs of all time...*sigh*

Well the seasons come, and seasons go.
And the reason you left, guess I'll never know
There will be others, yes I know it's true.
But they won't do you like I did for you.

Strong as a wind across a mountain top
My love is moving and it just won't stop.
I turned you loose, honey I let you fly.
Now all I can do is hang my head and cry.

Hal Ketchum My Love will not change

Try to remember the kind of September
when life was slow and oh, so mellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
when grass was green and grain was yellow.
Try to remember the kind of September
when you were a tender and callow fellow,
Try to remember and if you remember the follow.

Try to remember when life was so tender
that no one wept except the willow.
Try to remember when life was so tender that
dreams were kept beside your pillow.
Try to remember when life was so tender that
love was an ember about to billow.
Try to remember and if you remember then follow.

Deep in December it's nice to remember
altho you know the snow will follow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
without the hurt the heart is hollow.
Deep in December it's nice to remember
the fire of September that made us mellow.
Deep in December our hearts should remember and follow

Correct! In honor of the late Jerry Orbach who was in the original cast of the Fantastiks.

There can be only one King: Elvis, 'A Little Less Conversation (A Little More Action Please)'

If I told you a secret,
You won't telll a soul,
Will you hold it and keep it alive?

Cos it's burning a hole,
And I can't get to sleep,
And I can't live alone in this life.

Trying to remember where it all began
She's got herself a little piece of heaven
Waiting for the time when Earth shall be as one

Celine Dion A New Day

This should be easy.

There's forty shillings on the drum,
For those who volunteer to come,
To 'list and fight the foe today,
Over the hills and far away;

Chorus:
Over the hills and o'er the main,
Through Flanders, Portugal, and Spain,
King George commands, and we obey,
Over the hills and far away

When duty calls me I must go,
To 'list and fight another foe,
But part of me will always stay,
Over the hills and far away,

Over the Hills and Far Away

Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watchin' X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford I'm getting frantic
Like Sting I'm tantric
Like Snickers, guaranteed to satisfy

Like Kurasawa I make mad films
Okay, I don't make films
But if I did they'd have a Samurai
Gonna get a set a' better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
'Cause the cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing

Heh... I love that song. One Week by Barenaked Ladies.

It's far beyond the stars
It's near beyond the moon
I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon.

We'll meet beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before
Happy we'll be beyond the sea
And never again I'll go sailin'.

I know beyond a doubt
My heart will lead me there soon
We'll meet … I know we'll meet … beyond the shore
We'll kiss just as before.

Somewhere, beyond the sea,
Somewhere, waiting for me....
My lover stands on golden sands!
And straight to her arms, I'll go sailing.

Beyond the Sea, Drie. Love that song.

QUOTE
I sit and wait
Does an (blank) contemplate my fate
And do they know
The places where we go
When we're grey and old
'cos I have been told
That salvation lets their wings unfold
So when I'm lying in my bed
Thoughts running through my head
And I feel the love is dead
(blank)

(skip a bit)

When I'm feeling weak
And my pain walks down a one way street
I look above
And I know I'll always be blessed with love
And as the feeling grows
She breathes flesh to my bones

I've blanked give-away bits, even if it's still obvious.

Coldplay's Shiver

You're only here once so you got to get it right.
No time to fuss and fight.
'Cause life don't mean much if measured out with someone else's plight.
In time you'll see the light.
'Cause the way that we're living,
is all take and no giving,
there's not much to believe in,
the loudest mouth will hail the new found way
to be king for a day.

But I won't be home again
Maybe someday you'll look up
And barely conscious, you'll say to no one

I'm taking a ride
With my best friend
I hope he never let's me down again
He knows where he's taking me
Taking me where I want to be
I'm taking a ride
With my best friend

We're flying high
We're watching the world pass us by
Never want to come down
Never want to put my feet back down
On the ground

QUOTE
Come with me and you'll be
In a world of pure imagination
Take a look and you'll see
Into your imagination

We'll begin with a spin
Trav'ling in the world of my creation
What we'll see will defy
Explanation

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world, there's nothing to it

There is no life I know
To compare with pure imagination
Living there, you'll be free
If you truly wish to be

If you want to view paradise
Simply look around and view it
Anything you want to, do it
Want to change the world, there's nothing to it

There is no life I know

I love that movie...and can't wait to see the remake!

And now, my tribute to the Jersey hair bands of the 80s:

I wake up in the morning
And I raise my weary head
I got an old coat for a pillow
And the earth was last night's bed
I don't know where I'm going
Only God knows where I've been
I'm a devil on the run
A six gun lover
A candle in the wind

When you're brought into this world
They say you're born in sin
Well at least they gave me something
I didn't have to steal or have to win
Well they tell me that I'm wanted
Yeah I'm a wanted man
I'm colt in your stable
I'm what Cain was to Abel
Mister catch me if you can

Pyjamas, a hairbrush
New shoes and a case
I said to my reflection
Let's get out of this place

Past the church and the steeple
The laundry on the hill
Billboards and the buildings
Memories of it still
Keep calling and calling
But forget it all
I know I will

Well that would be Tempted by Squeeze, of course. Personally I prefer "Coffee in Bed"

He said I was finally the husband,
That most the time I wasn't.
And I became a friend a friend would like to have.
And all the sudden goin' fishing,
Wasn't such an imposition.
And I went three times that year I lost my dad.
Well I finally read the good book,
And I took a good long hard look at what I'd do
If I could do it all again.
And then.

[Chorus]

Like tomorrow was a gift and you've got eternity
To think about what you do with it,
What could you do with it, what can
I do with with it, what would I do with it.

Tim McGraw Live Like You Were Dying
QUOTE
When I think of those east end lights, muggy nights
The curtains drawn in the little room downstairs
Prima donna lord you really should have been there
Sitting like a princess perched in her electric chair
And it’s one more beer and I don’t hear you anymore
We’ve all gone crazy lately
My friends out there rolling round the basement floor
(Chours)
never realised the passing hours of evening showers
A slip noose hanging in my darkest dreams
I’m strangled by your haunted social scene
Just a pawn out-played by a dominating queen
It’s four o’clock in the morning
Damn it listen to me good
I’m sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time, thank God my music’s still alive

And I would have walked head on into the deep end of the river
Clinging to your stocks and bonds
Paying your h.p. demands forever
They’re coming in the morning with a truck to take me home

"Someone Saved My Life Tonight" by Elton John
They painted up your secrets
With the lies they told to you
And the least they ever gave you
Was the most you ever knew

And I wonder where these dreams go
When the world gets in your way
What's the point in all this screaming
No one's listening anyway

Your voice is small and fading
And you hide in here unknown
And your mother loves your father
'Cause she's got nowhere to go

And she wonders where these dreams go
'Cause the world got in her way
What's the point in ever trying
Nothing changing anyway

They press their lips against you
And you love the lies they say
And I tried so hard to reach you
But your falling anyway

And you know I see right through you
'Cause the world gets in your way
What's the point in all the screaming
You're not listening anyway

That'd be Acoustic #3 by the Goo-Goo Dolls. And what a fantastic name.

QUOTE

I walk a lonely road, the only one that I have ever known,
Don't know where it goes, but it's only me and I walk alone,
I walk this empty street, on the boulevard of broken dreams,
Where the city sleeps, and I'm the only one and I walk alone.

I walk alone, I walk alone.

I walk alone, I walk alone.

My shadow's the only one that walks beside me,
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating,
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me,
'til then I walk alone.

"Boulevard Of Broken Dreams" by Green Day - great song!

until she comes again
i can hear the things she said
i feel no thoughts to move my head
until she comes again

the sun goes out and night comes in
the time goes round and day grows dim
until she comes again

until she comes again
with all my savings and my sins
there's no good reason to begin
until she comes again

until she comes again
with all her dreams tied in her hand
there is no why to understand
until she comes again
until she comes again
the sun goes out and night comes in
the time goes round
and day grows dim
until she comes again

Surprisingly *snigger* it's ''Hey there Delilah'' by the Plain White T's.

Here be a good one:

Come up to meet you, Tell you I’m sorry, You don’t know how lovely you are
I had to find you, Tell you I need you, Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, And ask me your questions, Aww let’s go back to the start
Runnin’ in circles, [sounds like] Comin’ up tails, Heads on the science apart
Nobody said it was easy
It’s such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Aww take me back to the start

Coldplay's " Scientist"

how about--

Well I fell into prision
At about quarter to three
Where I found in my cell
A glass waiting for me
So I filled what was empty
And pulled up a stool
But he stood ing the corner
The Ol' Devil wouldnt move
He said you drink when your lonely
No I drink when I want
He said youll never be sober
Sure why would I want that?
I only drink to be merry
But unfortunately. . . .
I'm in the wrong prision cell
and the wrong company

Posted by: Drie Jul 20 2005, 06:23 PM

You've gotta love Flogging Molly's The Wrong Company. Good one!

And, because I'm longing for cooler weather:

QUOTE
"Bah, humbug!" No, that's too strong
'Cause it is my favorite holiday
But all this year's been a busy blur
Don't think I have the energy

To add to my already mad rush
Just 'cause it's 'tis the season.
The perfect gift for me would be
Completions and connections left from

Last year, ski shop,
Encounter, most interesting.
Had his number but never the time
Most of '81 passed along those lines.

So deck those halls, trim those trees
Raise up cups of Christmas cheer,
I just need to catch my breath,
Christmas by myself this year.

Calendar picture, frozen landscape,
Chilled this room for twenty-four days,
Evergreens, sparkling snow
Get this winter over with!

Flashback to springtime, saw him again,
Would've been good to go for lunch,
Couldn't agree when we were both free,
We tried, we said we'd keep in touch.

Didn't, of course, 'til summertime,
Out to the beach to his boat could I join him?
No, this time it was me,
Sunburn in the third degree.

Now the calendar's just one page
And, of course, I am excited
Tonight's the night, but I've set my mind
Not to do too much about it.

(Chorus omitted because it gives the song away)

Hardly dashing through the snow
Cause I bundled up too tight
Last minute have-to-do's
A few cards a few calls
'Cause it's r-s-v-p
No thanks, no party lights
It's Christmas Eve, gonna relax
Turned down all of my invites.

Last fall I had a night to myself,
Same guy called, halloween party,
Waited all night for him to show,
This time his car wouldn't go,

Forget it, it's cold, it's getting late,
Trudge on home to celebrate
In a quiet way, unwind
Doing Christmas right this time.

A&P has provided me
With the world's smallest turkey
Already in the oven, nice and hot
Oh damn! Guess what I forgot?

So on with the boots, back out in the snow
To the only all-night grocery,
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
In the line is that guy I've been chasing all year!

"I'm spending this one alone," he said.
"Need a break; this year's been crazy."
I said, "Me too, but why are you?
You mean you forgot cranberries too?"

Then suddenly we laughed and laughed
Caught on to what was happening
That Christmas magic's brought this tale
To a very happy ending! "

(Chorus omitted because it gives the song away)

Breaking my back just to know your name
Seventeen tracks and I've had it with this game
I'm breaking my back just to know your name
But heaven ain't close in a place like this
Anything goes but don't blink you might miss
Cause heaven ain't close in a place like this
I said heaven ain't close in a place like this
Bring it back down, bring it back down tonight
Never thought I'd let a rumor ruin my moonlight

Well somebody told me
You had a boyfriend
Who looked like a girlfriend
That I had in February of last year

You could be very right Jerry. I think I'd be safe to guess that you didn't just recently hear this one however for the following reasons

1) It's old and the bit I quoted is just about the only part clean enough for this crowd

2) I don't think it was ever a big hit

3) Most radio stations probably wouldn't have aired it anyway.

LOL. Good show young man. Your turn to stump us.

Evanescence - Imaginary

QUOTE
I'm trying to tell you something about my life
Maybe give me insight between black and white
The best thing you've ever done for me
Is to help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all
Well darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear
I wrap my fear around me like a blanket
I sailed my ship of safety till I sank it, I'm crawling on your shore.

-chorus-

I went to see the doctor of philosophy
With a poster of Rasputin and a beard down to his knee
He never did marry or see a B-grade movie
He graded my performance, he said he could see through me
I spent four years prostrate to the higher mind, got my paper
And I was free.

-chorus-

I stopped by the bar at 3 a.m.
To seek solace in a bottle or possibly a friend
I woke up with a headache like my head against a board
Twice as cloudy as I'd been the night before
I went in seeking clarity.

-chorus-

Here's some great ones:

QUOTE (WAY)

Her name was Leia,
She was a princess!
With a danish on each ear and Darth Vader drawing near...
So R2-D2,
found Ben Kenobi,
He'd have to put the Death Star plans into the Rebellion's hands,
So, Luke and Obi-Wan
had to get to Alderan,
So, they stopped into Mos Eisly to have a drink with Han;

*Chorus*

His name was Solo,
He was pilot
with a blaster at his side and a smile twelve parsecs wide!
There with Chewbacca,
He was a wookie!
They met with Luke and Obi-Wan about the Millenium Falcon,
Docking Bay 94,
Stormtroopers at the door..
With a flash of Ben's lightsaber,
now there's an arm on the floor!

(Chorus)

His name was Yoda,
He was a Muppet!
Darth Vader was so bad and by the way, he's Luke's dad!
Luke kissed his sister,
his hand got cut off,
In that galaxy far far away,
Luke has had a lousy day;
Boba Fett was so mean,
Jabba had bad hygine!
Why didn't they all just relax back on Tatooine?

"Star Wars Cantina" by Weird Al!

And to keep with this theme, I dedicate this next song to you Yoda! biggrin.gif

QUOTE
I met him in a swamp down in Dagobah
Where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated soda

I saw the little runt sitting there on a log
I asked him his name and in a raspy voice he said "Yoda"

Well, I've been around, but I ain't never seen
A guy who looks like a muppet, but he's wrinkled and green

Well, I'm not dumb, but I can't understand
How he can lift me in the air just by raising his hand

Well, I left home just a week before
And I've never ever been a Jedi before
But Obi Wan, he set me straight, of course
He said, "Go to Yoda and he'll show you the Force"

Well I'm not the kind that would argue with Ben
So it looks like I'm gonna start all over again
Though with my Yoda

So I used the Force
I picked up a box
I lifted some rocks
While I stood on my head
Well, I won't forget what Yoda said

He said, "Luke, stay away from the darker side
And if you start to go astray, let the Force be your guide"
Oh, my Yoda

"I know Darth Vader's really got you annoyed
But remember, if you kill him, then you'll be unemployed"
Oh, my Yoda

Well, I heard my friends really got in a mess
So I'm gonna have to leave Yoda I guess
But I know that I'll be coming back some day
I'll be playing this part 'till I'm old and gray

The long-term contract I had to sign
Says I'll be making these movies till the end of time
With my Yoda

some parts of above song omitted - didn't want to make it too easy...

Ah, that's also by Weird Al and stuck on my mp3 player biggrin.gif Could it possibly be 'Yoda' ? Possibly? laugh.gif

Here's a totally random one (i.e. destroying the theme!)

QUOTE

The gap that grows between our lives
The gap our parents never had
Stop those thoughts control your mind
Replace the things that you despise
Oh you’re old I hear you say
It doesn’t mean that I don’t care
I don’t believe in it anymore
Pathetic acts for a worthless cause

In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
But now unforgiven the everlasting
Everlasting

The world is full of refugees
They’re just like you and just like me
But as people we have a choice
To end the void with all it’s force
So don’t forget or don’t pretend
It’s all the same now in the end
It was set in a different life
Destroys my days and haunts my nights?

In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
In the beginning when we were winning
When our smiles were genuine
But now unforgiving the everlasting
Everlasting
Now unforgiving, the everlasting
Everlasting

Yoda, could we get a hint?

Posted by: Yoda Sep 18 2005, 06:30 PM

Clue 1: Welsh Band
Clue 2: The disappearance of one of the band members is a great mystery, and has never been solved.
Clue 3: The lyrics above are all the lyrics in the song, so the title's in there somewhere wink.gif

Thanks for your hints Yoda! #3 helped me, so I Googled it (sorry! I know that's cheating...) and I came up with: MANIC STREET PREACHERS - The Everlasting.

Am I correct?

that's the ticket - your turn Cristin!

How about these lyrics...in honor of the wild weather we're experiencing in SoCal...

QUOTE
Oh now feel it comin back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the Earth again
I can feel it

Lightning Crashes by Live

Ira Hayes,
Ira Hayes

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war

Gather round me people there's a story I would tell
About a brave young Indian you should remember well
From the land of the Pima Indian
A proud and noble band
Who farmed the Phoenix valley in Arizona land

Down the ditches for a thousand years
The water grew Ira's peoples' crops
'Till the white man stole the water rights
And the sparklin' water stopped

Now Ira's folks were hungry
And their land grew crops of weeds
When war came, Ira volunteered
And forgot the white man's greed

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
There they battled up Iwo Jima's hill,
Two hundred and fifty men
But only twenty-seven lived to walk back down again

And when the fight was over
And when Old Glory raised
Among the men who held it high
Was the Indian, Ira Hayes

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Ira returned a hero
Celebrated through the land
He was wined and speeched and honored;
Everybody shook his hand

But he was just a Pima Indian
No water, no crops, no chance
At home nobody cared what Ira'd done
And when did the Indians dance

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Then Ira started drinkin' hard;
Jail was often his home
They'd let him raise the flag and lower it
like you'd throw a dog a bone!

He died drunk one mornin'
Alone in the land he fought to save
Two inches of water in a lonely ditch
Was a grave for Ira Hayes

CHORUS:
Call him drunken Ira Hayes
He won't answer anymore
Not the whiskey drinkin' Indian
Nor the Marine that went to war
Yeah, call him drunken Ira Hayes
But his land is just as dry
And his ghost is lyin' thirsty
In the ditch where Ira died

'The Ballad of Ira Hayes' by Johnny Cash

Here's a potentially tricky one:

QUOTE

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I will yield the chorus as a clue if it is necessary... whistling.gif

I forgot that I need to post a song. Because it'll be really easy, I'm going to give one line.

"In the town where I was born..."

Posted by: Yoda Mar 27 2006, 10:35 PM

*whistles along to 'Yellow Submarine' by The Beatles* biggrin.gif Superb choice!

Take my love, take my land
Take me where I cannot stand
I don't care, I'm still free
You can't take the sky from me
Take me out to the black
Tell them I ain't comin' back
Burn the land and boil the sea
You can't take the sky from me
There's no place I can be
Since I found Serenity
But you can't take the sky from me...

Firefly Theme

(My roommate and I watch it sometimes. Awesome show! smile.gif )

"I wanna be your kingpin, living in Pekin.
I wanna be your bigwig, living in Pekin.
I caught the flu and away I flew.
N.Y.C., pediate blue.
Dimeatap, and spinal tap, a-city maps, and hand claps.
Statue of liberty play, it only works once, don't throw it away.
Cause I wanna be your kingpin, living in Pekin
Living in Pekin, livin in....
How can I, how can I give my love to you when I don't know what to do."

Posted by: Yoda Apr 11 2006, 11:42 AM

That'd be 'Kingpin' by Wilco, which I had to cheat to track down but will attempt to find later on to have a listen to.

Here's on that's got me hooked recently, really good instrumentals to it:

QUOTE
Keeping up appearances
Keeping up with the Jones'
Fooling my selfish heart
Going through the motions

But I'm fooling myself
I'm fooling myself
Cause you say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again

Everybody thinks you're well
Everybody thinks I'm ill
Watching me fall apart
Falling under your spell

But you're fooling yourself
You're fooling yourself
Cause you say you love me
And then you do it again, you do it again
You say your sorry's
And then you do it again, you do it again
And again and again and again and again

*repeat chorus until end*

Good luck!

A Song for Sad Nikki

Whenever sang my songs,
On the stage, on my own
Whenever said my words,
Wishing they would be heard,
I saw you smiling at me was it real? Or just my fantasy?
You'd always be there in the corner of this tiny little bar.

My last night here for you,
Same old songs just once more,
My last night here with you?
Maybe yes, maybe no.
I kinda liked it your way,
How u shyly placed your eyes on me,
Did You ever know that I had mine on you?

*Darling so there you are,
With that look on your face,
As if you're never hurt,
As if you're never down,
Shall I be the one for you?
Who pinches you softly but sure,
If frown is shown then,
I will know that you are no dreamer.

So let me come to you,
Close as I wanna be,
Close enough for me,
To feel your heart beating fast,
And stay there as a whisper,
How I love your peaceful eyes on me,
Did you ever know?
That I had mine on you.

Darling so share with me,
Your love if you had enough,
Or tears if you're holding back,
Or pain if that's what it is,
How can I let you know?
I'm more than the dress and a voice,
Just reach me out then,
You will know that you are not dreaming.

*Darling so there you are,
With that look on your face,
As if you're never hurt,
As if you're never down,
Shall I be the one for you?
Who pinches you softly but sure,
If frown is shown then,
I will know that you are no dreamer.

(in answer to your guess - nope!)

Posted by: Drie May 8 2006, 04:48 PM

Yoda, would that be a song by the wonderful Franz Ferdinand?

Posted by: Yoda May 8 2006, 10:48 PM

'fraid not, here's some further clues:

Album Title (cryptic): A baker's dozen of old thoughts
Number of Band Members: 4
Some Previous Albums (non-cryptic): The Man Who, The Invisible Band

Posted by: Billywig2 Jul 27 2006, 12:05 AM

I know the song, and I can sing it all the way through, but I have no idea who sings it blink.gif

Posted by: Yoda Jul 27 2006, 09:24 PM

Hmmm... probably didn't help that one of my clues was completely wrong (I shouldn't have put 'baker's dozen', just 'dozen'). The answer was 'Re-Offender' by the band Travis, from the album '12 Memories'.

Seeing as how Billywig can sing it all the way through though, I think that counts - your turn!

Posted by: Billywig2 Jul 28 2006, 03:35 AM

I'll put the whole song, because if you know it, you'll know straight away, and if you don't, it won't come to you. biggrin.gif

Every single night, the same arangement
I go out and fight the fight
Still I always feel the strangest strangment
Nothing here is real, nothing here is right
I've been making shows of trading blows
Just hoping no-one knows
That I've been going through the motions
Walking through the part
Nothing seems to penetrate my heart
I was always brave and kind of rightious
Now I find I'm wavering
Crawl out of your grave
you'll find this fight just doesn't mean a thing

She aint got that swing

Thanks for noticing!

She does pretty well with things from hell
but lately we can tell
That she's just going through the motions
Faking it somehow

She's not even half the girl she....ow

Will I stay this way forever?
Sleep walk through my life's endeavor

How can i repay...

Whatever!
I don't want to be going through the motions
loosing all my drive I can't even see
if this is really me and i just want to be
Alive!

I love this episode of Buffy, the Vampire Slayer! This is from "Once More, With Feeling," right? I'm not sure of the official title - I'm guessing it's "Going Through the Motions" that starts the episode...

Just want to make sure I'm correct before posting the next set of lyrics!

Posted by: Billywig2 Jul 29 2006, 03:50 AM

That's correct! 061.gif

Hooray! I just Tivo'd that episode... biggrin.gif

Apparently, it has become habit to post all of the lyrics to a song, so I'll break the habit and only post a stanza. If I post the entire song, it will become very easy to guess!

QUOTE
And he played Fire on the Mountain
Run boys, run
The devil's in the House of the Rising Sun
Chicken in a bread pan picken' out dough
Granny does your dog bite
No child, no

The Devil Went Down To Georgia by charlie daniels

QUOTE
It's these substandard motels on the (lalalalala) corner of 4th and Fremont Street.
Appealing only because they are just that un-appealing
Any practiced catholic would cross themselves upon entering.
The rooms have a hint of asbestos and maybe just a dash of formaldehyde,
And the habit of decomposing right before your very (lalalala) eyes.

and then
QUOTE
There are no raindrops on roses and girls in white dresses.
It's sleeping with roaches and taking best guesses
At the shade of the sheets and before all the stains
And a few more of your least favorite things.

possibly showing how young I am... but I still think its a really good song

Build God Then We'll Talk By Panic At The Disco

This is a song from one of my favorite books. it is pretty much a give-away

QUOTE
'Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland,
Beasts of every land and clime,
Hearken to my joyful tidings
Of the golden future time.

'Soon or late the day is coming,
Tyrant Man shall be o'erthrown,
And the fruitful fields of England
Shall be trod by beasts alone.

'Rings shall vanish from our noses,
And the harness from our back,
Bit and spur shall rust forever,
Cruel whips no more shall crack.

'Riches more than mind can picture,
Wheat and barley, oats and hay,
Clover, beans, and mangel-wurzels
Shall be ours upon that day.

'Bright will shine the fields of England,
Purer shall its waters be,
Sweeter yet shall blow its breezes
On the day that sets us free.

'For that day we all must labour,
Though we die before it break;
Cows and horses, geese and turkeys,
All must toil for freedom's sake.

'Beasts of England, beasts of Ireland,
Beasts of every land and clime,
Hearken well and spread my tidings
Of the golden future time.

That's 'Beasts of England', from Orwell's 'Animal Farm'

"Tomorrow is another day, the cat's are out to play, to play!
That old rusty space ship wants to sail, into the milky way again,
On a river of red red wine...

Run run run run run, run run run run, run run run run,
Let's have some fun fun fun fun fun, fun fun fun fun. fun fun fun fun fun fun,
We'll drink drink drink drink drink, drink drink drink, drink drink drink,
A toast to the sun sun sun sun sun, sun sun sun sun, sun sun sun sun sun sun..."

Or in English:

Therefore, ocean, sea, dusk dawn, north, south, west and east.
