I LOVE this series! I read it when I was 10 or something and I have been obsessing ever since. smile.gif

They're really interesting and the movies are just as good as the books. Only a few more days till it comes out!!! biggrin.gif *jumps up and down on seat*

Just wanted to say that.

This is and always will be my favorite book series. I could read this from start to finish and start again immediately with no problems, forever. I will love this series when I'm too senile to remember my own name.

Such a detailed, rich, perfect writing... Written and spoken languages documented for every race, histories charted perfectly with nary a day's difference, True-to-life characters with none of the phonied-up personality so prevalent today to catch interest... if you have to insert quirks and defects, its not real. Relationships and culture and events are what shape people, and JRR Tolkein taught me that.

I reread his books and despair of writing well amidst being inspired to do so.

for some reason, my favorite has always been Return of the King, probably 'cause I love the part when they return to the Shire. It just shows so much of how the characters and places change.

I tried to read these right after 'The Fellowship of the Ring' came out in theaters, but I got bogged down while they were hanging out with Tom Bombadil. After I actually watched the movie (I gave the expanded extended edition to my brother for X-mas), I was able to read all three books. After I finished them, I went back and read The Hobbit. I wanted to see The Two Towers in theaters, but I never got around to it, so now I have to wait for it to come out on video and DVD. A curious side-effect of reading the stories is that I started to echo Tolkein's writing style within my own stories. I wouldn't have minded, except I was in the middle of a story and a change in writing style would have been a little odd. wink.gif

I already read all three books, the Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales part one and two and am moving on to the Hitory of Middle Earth. I'm not obsessed. whistling.gif Uh-huh. Yeah. biggrin.gif

I was eight when I read the Hobbit. I liked it so much, I got the Ring Trilogy and loved it too. Then I found out about the Silmarillian, and just had to get it!

I love LOTR. I actually was able to take a class at my school about Tolkien where we read The Silmarillion, The Hobbit and the Trilogy....all in one semester. I kept up as best I could, unfortunately not getting through all of The Hobbit, but I read every single bit of the Trilogy and The Silmarillion. Quite the challenge, but totally worth it as this series is a total classic and worth reading by everyone.
