I was wondering, so....

I would say a pet novel, myself, with parts of other answers.

I have lots of 'bits' of story, the trouble is none of them fit together when I want them to, leading to the creation of more 'bits' of story...it's kind of annoying. I'm going to end up with several puzzles with one piece missing, or one giant puzzle that's been hammered together and cut up to work.

I always seem to have more stories in my head than I actually have time to write. It's just this jumble of tales I want to tell. The problem comes in the fact that I seem to have a very linear mind and can only work from point A to point B, and unlike a lot of other people can't work on more than one story at the same time.

I'd have a question to add to that as well:

Why do people write?

I think the reasons I write are partly relaxation - it's nice to escape into a bit of fantasy at the end of the day, to get away from responsibilities and have a bit of fun. I also write because I feel compelled to tell a tale and can't rest until I've done it. It never ceases to amaze me when I see a story where there was nothing but a blank page before.

Imogen, I completely agree. It amaxes me every time I write something. A blank piece of paper and a pen have so much potential...
I want to be an author, however before I started writing fanfiction I never really saw it happening. Writing fanfiction has been such a help! Compare my first story to what I'm writing now and, well, let's just say the difference is practically tangible.
I've begun a novel of my own, it's fantasy, no surprise there... I was bored at the computer one day and I found this really nice font, so I was experimenting and I somehow managed to start something incredible that I can't let go of now... The idea just came to life in my head and the more I work on it, the bigger it gets!
In answer to your question, Imogen, I write because it's the only magic I can really do. Magic is alive and real when I sit down to write and I want to show everyone else that as well.

with the influence of people like everyone here, I'm improving so much I'll write something and a few days later look at it and start revising, editing, changing... everytime I read something, the same thing happens. Everything I like gets thought over and almost inevitably changes my stories.

I've loads of ideas and I always try to write them down, but it's the annoying fact my ideas always pop up when I've got no paper or a pen at hand *mental note - start to carry jotter and pen everywhere* . I've got a few flying around on paper, but I'm waiting until I completely finish them to post anything online.

Why do I write? Well sometimes I'm just going about life and I all of the sudden get an idea for a story... It just comes up and bites me when I least expect it! Funny thing is it's usally around school... I just have to go somewhere with the idea, or it won't leave me alone and once I've started on the idea I can't stop unless my mind stops opening doors. I write cause I can, it's relaxing and it gives me something to do... I have to be careful that my writing doesn't get me in trouble though... You know how hard it is not to go write when you really want to write but know you have to do homework? It's just painful...

I'm a daydreamer... Always have been, daydreaming is a great time to weave a story together! Needless to say that can get me into trouble as well... Especially if I day dream in class and don't notice how much time has passed.

It's good to pass time with too... I often finnish my work at school early, so I just get out my note book and write some more. Only hard thing is resisting the temptation to get out the notebook before finnishing work... biggrin.gif

notebooks don't work real well for me... I'd rather write in my head than on a page. As well, I don't write a lot at once if I'm on a comp because I can't type properly, but I hold my pencil in such a weird, cramped stlye that my hand starts hurting.

Of course, it's all just excuses. icky-irritating-sassa-frassa procrastination!

Hi.

I'm the resident reader.

Yes, I know. I have written fanfic. I'm writing fanfic (or trying).

I'm an actress. I interpret the written word.

I write but only when I've got a good idea. I have a lot of stories that aren't posted anywhere, but I've got a couple at FF.N.

I write because I love being in charge of people and I get to be in charge of all my characters

ROFLOL! laugh.gif

now, THERE's a conversation topic. What do y'all think of the idea that all writers are really control freaks at heart?

Nome, do you know why I've stopped writing and am getting my stories betaed at gt and sq?

Because I've been yelling at my characters to do certain things, and they just WON'T!

It's *VERY* trying.

Becky, hasn't touched her works in weeks, she's so mad Ron and Hermione for not cooperating

You know you're really in trouble when the characters form a trade union against you smile.gif . Thankfully that hasn't happened to me so far, but they're starting to object to some of the events that I'm putting them through. I would advised offering bribes to them Becky - seem to be working in mine.
