I'm wanting to re-read this anyway, so if anyone wants to join in with a discussion and throwing a few theories around (however wild), let's go for it. It's a fun book and I've not really discussed it anywhere yet.

So if we kick off with chapter 1...

I'll be reading that tonight! Thoughts coming tomorrow icon_book2.gif

What did you make of the opening?

Being in Slytherin, she’d thought it had been the epitome of cool to return to school with such useful snakey phrases as “Can you pass the apple pie, please?” and “Would you be good enough to tell me what time the train to Madrid departs from Platform Two?”

I have been waited for this discussion. Yeah! I have so many sticky notes in my copy of HBP it looks like it has sprouted feathers. LOL

I rather enjoyed the opening, a next break from the how have the Dursley's been mistreating Harry now. I felt it set a tone that this book unlike OOTP was not going to be Harry focused. Harry I think is much less self-centered in this book and the opening chapter made think JKR wanted the reader to know right away. She does a fabulous job of making you feel the Prime Minister's uneasiness. Upon first reading the chapter I knew I wasn't going to like Scrimgeour, still don't, too much arrogance there.

My favorite part

I too enjoyed the beginning. We got more of a sense of the two worlds colliding in an attempt to capture this wrong-doer. I think it really set the tone for the novel overall.

I like that quote Hershey. I think it shows how clueless the muggle world is and how wrapped up in themselves they are. I'm not making much sense, but its something like that.

Also, it reminded me of the beginning of GoF. Both books start without Harry and set up the novel. I think the plot that follows is similar. Do you think Rowling did this on purpose?

I am also looking forward to the end scene in Moody's office. Will they keep the foe glass? I certainly hope so.
