Well, someone better kick start a chat conversation thingy, so here goes biggrin.gif

Oi, you! Yes you, the people on the website at the minute (specifically DL and bart cos I know they're around) - why are you not in the chatroom. And if you are, why isn't it showing you on my version. And in other conversational news, nice weather we're having here, how're you?

Yoda, conversation killer or conversation king?

Posted by: Della_Luna Feb 24 2004, 09:14 PM

Wasn't aware you were in the chatroom tongue.gif .

Weather down here is pretty good...almost too hot though. You?

Okay, since this is OT rambling, I just thought I'd share one of the funniest and most odd phone calls I've gotten in a loooong while.

I work for the University of Michigan, but my office is in Los Angeles, CA. So, often people will dial our number by mistake and freak out a bit, thinking they've called the state of Michigan instead of a local number. Today, I got one of those kind of calls and after I explained that this office does fundraising for UM, just on the west coast this guy then turned around and asked me out on a date. confused1.gif

1) Never met the guy, had to ask him his name
2) Made me laugh when he said he'd provide me with references as to what a good guy he is
2) Was very sweet . . . blushing.gif

Just had to share this with everyone. No good explanation as Friday the 13th was a week and a half ago, and the full moon was at the beginning of the month.

Just have to say that people will always surprise me! teehee.gif laugh.gif teehee.gif

OK but did you say yes? Inquiring minds want to know.

Robert

Posted by: Drie Feb 25 2004, 06:11 PM

Well, I'm kind of playing it a bit safe. Got his e-mail address and I'll get to know him that way first before venturing out of my safety net to an actual date.

those are great choices! Jennie and I "chatted" this morning and right now her dad still refuses to allow her back on Elenarda although she's got a plan. (typical of our favorite Slytherin)

I sent her a copy of the chat thread and the link to your choice. Out of curiousity, where you refering tot he shirt or the guy?

Also, I've got the MARBLEHEAD reunion in San Antonio is September and I'm trying to swing a trip to LA the weekend of my birthday (Oct 3rd) for some thesis research as I want to spend my birthday at Disneyland.

At least your old enough to check into the airport alone. Aparently I'm too young and need an adult to check me in so I was stuck in an airport line on Memorial Day with two people working the counter for 30 minutes while all of my friends ate. But at least I had an amazing time!

What did everyone do for Memorial Day weekend?

Posted by: RJOCL12 Jun 4 2004, 05:48 AM

I spent the weekend delivering pizzas to drunk bikers & biker chicks. The good thing is that since the NAACP started its boycott of SC, the crowds coming to Black Biker Week now are really pretty nice and they tip! (in 2000, you were literally taking your life in your own hands walking through those crowds!)

The only redeeming feature is the "scenery" on display when stuck in traffic.

Robert devil.gif

Posted by: hockeygod Jun 4 2004, 11:09 AM

I wonder if that kind of "scenery" can be found where I live. cool.gif

I didn't do anything for Memorial Day except a parade went out in front of my house.

Ill await the email....

And omg!!!! France 2...England 1? noooooooooooo

But just think English people here....we beat the best team in the world for 90 minutes....cant we beat the swiss for 93?

jen XxX i like to think that and its totally random...

Posted by: hockeygod Jun 21 2004, 02:37 PM

WHEN DID ENGLAND LOSE?!?

And who is on top of the Premiership Standings?

Posted by: Yoda Jun 21 2004, 06:46 PM

Arsenal finished top of the premiership, if you go to the bbc sports pages they'll probably cover all the details.

England lost to France 2-1 in their opening group qualifier last week, Sunday 13th if I recall. However, since then, we hammered the Swiss 3-0 and France drew with Croatia leaving the standings as such:

France 4pts
England 3pts
Croatia 2pts
Switzerland 1pt

With tonight being the final lot of matches, England vs. Croatia and France vs. Switzerland. To qualify for the next round England need a draw minimum although if we win & France draw/lose this puts us top. I don't think France will draw/lose though, so England will probably finish second smile.gif

Posted by: hockeygod Jun 21 2004, 09:45 PM

Thanks Yoda. Arsenal is my favorite team, but being in the U.S. we don't get many international games.

Does Croatia have a strong side, or should at least a draw be a walk in the park? And where are they playing the match?

Posted by: Yoda Jun 22 2004, 12:00 PM

well, it was actually a close game but we won 4-2 in the end, the Croats didn't give up though until the last five minutes (and almost made it 4-3 then!) the game took place in the stadium of light in Portugal (not Sunderland) and our next game is against the Portugese so will probably be in the same place!

Yoda, hail the mighty footballers!

Posted by: hockeygod Jun 23 2004, 04:01 PM

Thanks Yoda. You'll keep me posted right? biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Posted by: Yoda Jun 29 2004, 02:02 PM

Well this isn't exactly keeping you posted (sorry) but here's a semi-informative update.

Over four consecutive nights of competition last week: Italy (groups), Germany (groups), England (semis) and France (semis) all exited the tournament!

We lost on penalties to Portugal after a bout of dubious playing by both sides and dubious refereeing on part of the Swiss ref. That said, on the night, the Portugese were better - and we lost Rooney early on when he twisted his ankle, so that didn't help England. All credit to Frank Lampard though, he equalised in extra time so that we at least made it to the penalties. Final score, England 2 (5) - 2 (6) Portugal (penalties in brackets)

Yoda, now rooting for the Czechs who are completely demoralising every opponent they face biggrin.gif

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 4 2004, 03:32 PM

Realising that Yoda's info, though correct, has yet to be concluded. He isn't around much, so I'll finish off the Euro '04 details.

The semis went well if you're Portugese or Greek, as they won against the Netherlands and Czech Republic respectively.
Portugal 2-1 Netherlands
Greece 1-0 Czech Republic (silver goal)

Thus, the final was exactly the same as the opening match, where Portugal played Greece. It was tense, but Greece, as before, emerged victorious. Not only did Greece win against Portugal in the very first match in Euro 2004, they also won the final match, too.

Alanis Morissette and Barenaked ladies was an awesome concert!!!!!!!!!!! I had so much fun!!! The best part was that I bought the tickets myself!

Posted by: Jerry Aug 29 2004, 03:29 AM

I had a very bizarre and hilarious happening today, so I thought I'd share it.

I went to buy a can of carpet cleaner today. I browsed through the shelves and found something. (I won't mention the brand.) I look at the front and it says "Carpet cleaner". I look a bit more on the side, and it says "great for carpets, too!". I turn it over and on the bottom it says "for use on carpets: test first on an inconspicuous area". Thinking I need a higher prescription on my glasses, I go to the clerk to pay for the product. She takes one look at the thing and says, "This isn't for carpets! This is a roach killer!"
I nearly fall from laughter and manage to ask, "Then what the heck does it say 'Carpet Cleaner for?"

"It's a typo", she answered.

Ahh, I had a very productive day today... laugh.gif

Posted by: Jerry Aug 29 2004, 03:38 PM

My family liked their gifts, Mum was especially happy to receive 'The Box of Delights' from me, which she hasn't seen since I was 6 months old. Awwwwwww.

New Year was also fun, got back today from our party in Shropshire, saw all my old friends and there was an abundance of small children that I'd never seen before. It was also scary to see the ones I've known since they were babies at ages of 16 - especially when I still normally picture them as small kiddies in me head. Anyhow, it was all good, I ended up playing ping-pong/table tennis until 4am on New Year's Eve, with a bit of Scottish/Country dancing in between biggrin.gif

Yoda, noting the rapid dustcloud of fellow Elenardians running from the word 'dancing' in association with me.

Just wait until the little kiddies you used to babysit begin to get married. Then you'll feel a little shell shocked! wink.gif

Dance away Yoda dear!

Nah, no matter your age, you'll always stay young if you keep feeling young at heart wink.gif

Jerry's bang on with that assessment, I myself will be celebrating turning the approximate age of this emoticon soon: babe.gif

And in other news ranting.gif ranting.gif wallbash.gif wallbash.gif ranting.gif wallbash.gif

THE BALL WAS 3 FEET BEYOND THE LINE!!!!!!!!!

It was Spurs vs. Man Utd tonight - and we (should have) won 1-0. But nooooooo, 3 feet beyond the line does not constitute a goal for the visitors at Old Trafford. Gnash. ranting.gif

The good news is that we did hold them to a draw, and Arsenal were also held to a draw - while Chelsea won 2-0 at Middlesborough. This puts Chelsea 7 points ahead overall - a 2 point increase on their prior lead. And more good news - Spurs are back up to 7th! That's something at least! Man Utd. are within thrashing distance - wiv a stik!

I saw the Man U v Spurs. It was shocking, but i cant say i wanted spurs to win, i cant turn my back on alan smith, who came from leeds. Rooney whos just awsome. Anyone see Man U v Arsenal, a great 4-2 win for Man U. cool.gif

I dont support premiership teams but my faves are man u and blackburn. Anyway....

Yay! It is finally FRIDAY!!! Woo hoo! Anyone got any good plans?

Posted by: Billywig2 Nov 11 2005, 10:05 AM

Well... I guess everyone had so many plans that they must have been out doing them. How about for this weekend? I'm having a BBQ, and hopefully going horse riding, but that might have to wait till next weekend.

That sounds like fun! Me, I'm getting up at dark:thirty (read that as 5:30) to meet a friend and go to a major electronics sale to get a jump on Christmas shopping. I'm already sleepy! wink.gif

I have to work on a paper, do math homework, study for my exam on Friday, and work. I have a busy weekend.
