But the question is, did Frodo really have ambition? I'm not so sure about this, you'll notice in the book (and in the film - good ol' PJ!) that he tries to rid himself of the ring initially, not grasp the opportunity to bear it. Also, he doesn't choose to be the ringbearer, he sees it not as a way of fueling his ambition (especially in the book, where he sees Bilbo as Gollum in a much darker way) but preventing the free peoples from destroying themselves.

He was a troubled kid, wasn't he? Bilbo was off doing his adventurous thing, leaving Frodo behind to fend for himself. Maybe he's been corrupted not by the ring, but more by the Sacksville-Baggins'.

Yep, because we're studying the choices you've made - isn't that the point of a thread like this? I can't comment on the Xenogears list because I haven't heard of the book/film/tv before. So, getting back to the original list (i.e. the one I can comment on), let's have a look at some of the other choices. The other hobbits - total agreement, Merry and Pippin are the Gred and Forge of Lord of the Rings, and where else could Sam go? (Although I incline more toward Hufflepuff then Gryffindor, it's his loyalty that really drives the character).
Aragorn and Legolas in Gryffindor, no doubt, although you could get away with shoving Legolas in Ravenclaw, the elves being the wisest race of Middle-Earth (Mithrandir aside). Gimli is another one of those Hufflepuffian characters, he's following Aragorn with a fierce loyalty, and you have to remember - he isn't courageous, he's just a blunt-skulled dwarf, and proud of it. Boromir - could he go anywhere else but Slytherin? Ambition up to his eyeballs, but not a bad person for it, just weak-willed in the face of the ultimate evil. Gandalf can't be housed, so make him headmaster
He's got a bit of all of them in him, although, if he's headmaster that implies Gryffindor in the current Hogwarts, so shove him in there.Theoden, Eomer and Eowyn are tricky, in the Two Towers they're definitely all mostly Hufflepuffs, with perhaps Eomer an exception. But in Return of the King they're all decidedly Gryffindor, so it's a difficult choice to make. Faramir is Gryffindor all the way, his bravery is never in doubt, and like Harry he's not afraid to face the ultimate terror (but even better, he didn't need a Dumbledore to save him - extra points for braveness) Denethor in Slytherin with his older son, again because of ambition, he's got more fuel to it though, and his association with Mordor (in the book at least) has at least some influence on him.
The trio of elves definitely into Ravenclaw although Elrond has a bit of sneakiness about him (in the film at least when he convinces Arwen to leave) which suggests a hint of Slytherin. Arwen of the book in Ravenclaw, Arwen of the film in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, it's the only solution. Treebeard ...hmm... he's a bit big to fit in a house, couldn't he live in the forest and help Hagrid? They have the same point of view about things which is great.
Aha, the bad guys. Simply the same as you really, Sau 'The Deceiver' Ron in Slytherin, Saruman (the Missing) in Ravenclaw with a hint of Slytherin, Grima in Slytherin - it's his ambition to suceed in winning Eowyn that drives him. And finally, the Gruesome Twosome...well, I have to say shove them in Gryffindor (for comedy sidekicks), Ravenclaw (for the riddles), Hufflepuff (for the loyalty to the ring [and partly Frodo]) and Slytherin (cos they wants it, preciousss)

Have to argue against this one. Although he did come through in the end, he was responsible for betraying Han! Personally, Lando would have never been sorted b/c he is a squib.

I could make an arguement to place Han in Slytherin . . . as our Jenni would attest to, not all Slytherins are bad! I mean, Han was ambitious, and always wanted to know what was in it for him. That seems very Slytherin-esque to me!
Anyone care to place the X-Men? I only really know them through the first two movies.

And just to let DL know, im not overarly bothered about OB i mean i know hes *drools* but ive found a footballer close to home that whos btw i have connections to from a certain friend who has bagged a footballer.

If anything, I'd say Squall is like Anekin Skywalker from Star Wars. He starts off with good intentions, but slowly moves into the Dark Side. But he never gets there. Similar to Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi.

Very true, but didn't my attempts to un-make it go well? And QH has done a good justification - but to be fair I can't remember that much from FFVIII, I just know I'm the king of solving the puzzles

For Amarant, read Arogant. He's more a Slytherin who gets forced into needing friends. It's only because Zidane refused to beat him that made him join forces, but under the intention that Zidane spared his life for a reason beyond his comprehension. However, during the game he works out to more Hufflepuffian, but not so much Gryffindor, (except that bit when he's brave in the Upside-down Castle place)

There are more to Gryffindors than bravery. They play by the rules. Amarant has this fight fair attitude. He looks down on those who fight dirty and those who just fight for the sake of it.
Yes, I realy hated Garland and Brahne. Kuja I didn't hate as much.
