Harry and Ginny _ Procrastination Station _ Letter Drop

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 26 2004, 08:11 PM

Seeing as you love word games, here's a great game thought up by me five minutes ago.

It works as thus:
You're given a letter by the person above you. You must write a sentence of at least ten words without using that letter. More daring people might want to write at least ten sentences, but we won't go that far.

If you give a letter, only give one or you'll make it too hard.

Ready?

L

Posted by: Jerry Aug 26 2004, 08:15 PM

"I do hope I am ready for tonight's big event"

Is that okay?

and is "I" considered a word?

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 26 2004, 08:16 PM

That's fine. Just remember to give a letter for the next person...
It's more a "see how it goes" thing, this.

Posted by: Jerry Aug 26 2004, 08:20 PM

Okay, thanx for clarifying.

Next letter:

E

Posted by: hockeygod Aug 26 2004, 08:23 PM

Say, how about going fishing tomorrow down at our local marina?

S

Posted by: Yoda Aug 26 2004, 08:24 PM

I doubt the large hat will fit my tiny head

Each lesson you learn daily is a really enjoyable experience.

Y

Posted by: bart Aug 26 2004, 08:58 PM

So if lessons are learnt, does that indicate personal growth?

Clever, Yoda. Using my mistake as a sentence 332.gif laugh.gif biggrin.gif

"Now I can't fix it, otherwise our posts will look weird!" tongue.gif

I

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 27 2004, 02:11 PM

How about we try to make each sentence form a normal chat?

O

Posted by: Jerry Aug 27 2004, 02:49 PM

That is a very clever idea; I think I'll try that.

D

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 27 2004, 07:52 PM

Just for fun, I think I'll put two letters for omission in the next puzzle. That way, it'll be less easy.

B and R

Posted by: hockeygod Aug 27 2004, 07:54 PM

That was not nice my pal that we all know as QH.

A and L

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 27 2004, 07:58 PM

When you don't see the next person to post, nice might not be there, for you don't know who's up next.

No I, but must include J

Posted by: Yoda Aug 27 2004, 09:15 PM

Jocular my reply as Yoda shall be, hmmm yes, use (lethal) Force you must biggrin.gif

Use 'z' but leave out the 'o' please biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jerry Aug 27 2004, 09:19 PM

Zany elephants can eat leaves and grass, if I may say this.

Use both L and Q, but not E biggrin.gif

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 28 2004, 07:28 PM

Quads look a bit normal if you mind many, many kids.

Right, here we go: devil.gif
Include B, L and W, but miss out O and U.

Posted by: Jerry Aug 29 2004, 01:19 AM

This wind blew very heavily and settled nicely within itself.

Use Q, Z, and X, but exclude A, E, and I (a bit harsh, I know devil.gif tongue.gif )

Use AEIOU but not H.

Posted by: Jerry Aug 29 2004, 03:33 PM

At great personal risk, Katie went and dived in-between the sand dunes.

Use Q, W, and Y, but not A and N

Posted by: hershey Aug 30 2004, 05:53 PM

She quietly crept through the woods.

Use F, B, N but not E or T.

Posted by: Jerry Aug 30 2004, 10:42 PM

Harry did find blood on whimsical chairs and on Mary's cranium. (Ouch, that was a tough one biggrin.gif )

Here's a new twist:

Use I and G in the same word; do not use T and A in the same word (but use all of these letters)

Posted by: hershey Aug 31 2004, 03:15 AM

The igloo is a bit small.

Use A & M in the same word, P and I in the same word, but use each letter only once in the sentence.

(nice touch Jerry)

Posted by: Jerry Aug 31 2004, 03:29 AM

Peering out of her door, Esther thought amusedly, not gravely.

Use W, R, and G once in the sentence; use T four times in the sentence.

(you too, H.)

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 31 2004, 01:53 PM

Have you wrung out the cloth to have a second use?

Use 4xE, 4xO, 1xU, but no A and no I.
An E and O must be in one word twice (two words containing E and O).

There is a sentence, as I've got it written down here.

Posted by: hershey Aug 31 2004, 02:05 PM

Leo's song echos on uselessly.

(I think this fits)

Posted by: QuickHare Aug 31 2004, 02:24 PM

It does. I was thinking of "One flew over the cuckoo's nest" myself. Now you'll need to give letters.

QUOTE (hershey @ Aug 31 2004, 09:05 AM)

Right. Use every letter of QuickHare in a sentence, but not using more than two stated letters in each word.

Posted by: Jerry Sep 1 2004, 09:33 PM

"Quickly hear him out, Fred!"

If it's acceptable:

Use A, C, E, G,... (skip one) until Q (inclusive)

Posted by: QuickHare Sep 2 2004, 09:14 PM

Actually, Q, u, i, c and k all appear in the first word, when I said no more than two stated letters in each word.

And it has to be about ten words long....

Posted by: Jerry Sep 2 2004, 11:12 PM

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood your directions to mean "use all letters of 'QuickHare' in a sentence, but do not use the same letter twice in each word". Sorry blushing.gif

So after making a fool of myself biggrin.gif , here's another attempt:

"An Ace!" cried the dealer, excitedly watching Jim lay down his last card -- completing his partial flush of king, queen, jack, and ten.

...that's right, isn't it? (if I were really lazy, I could just have written 'the quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dogs'.)

Use x, z, and q to start words. don't use o or a at all. Include the word 'pickle'.

Posted by: hershey Sep 3 2004, 01:52 PM

The zebu quietly munched pickles since it isn't xeric.

(some may argue that the use of the contraction is cheating but oh well tongue.gif )

Use A,E,I, O,U and Y to start words, you may only use each vowel one additional time.
